Hi Resident, 

As the nights become darker for longer, it’s a reminder to remain vigilant 🌗

Vehicle crime is one of the most common types of crime, whether it’s a 2 in 1 burglary where car keys are stolen as part of a burglary or thieves exploiting keyless car technology to steal vehicles. 

There’s a number of ways to help keep your vehicles safe and sound:

🔑 Don’t leave your car keys on view or placed near windows, doors or cat-flaps where thieves can see or reach them 

.

📹 Consider installing CCTV or a doorbell video camera to cover your property

.

💡Fit outside security lighting and a visible intruder alarm to the front and back of your home 

.

🚫 Use your garage – if you have a garage or outbuilding, use it and lock your car away when not in use

.

❌ If you don’t have a garage, consider fitting sturdy and lockable gates or a security post to your driveway

.

🚨 Fit a high quality alarm, immobiliser or tracking device to your car if finances allow. Alternatively, use a device such as a visible steering or wheel locks.

👝 For keyless entry cars, put the keys in a screened or signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag and check if the bag or pouch is still working every few months.

🚗 Reprogramme your keys if you buy a second hand car.

📶 Turn off wireless signals on your fob (& the  spare) when it's not being used.

🔒 Always lock your car and make sure doors, windows, the boot and sunroof are secure whenever you leave your vehicle

.

🚗 If you own more than one vehicle, park the lesser valued vehicle to block in the more expensive one, making it more difficult to remove

.

🏡 Always make sure the windows and doors to your house are locked.

❌ The more difficult you make it for them, the less likely they are to bother.
